Background

About Prof. Joshi

Prof. Manjunath V. Joshi is a senior researcher with over four decades of academic experience in computer vision, machine learning, and signal processing. Beginning his teaching career in 1985 at Gogte Institute of Technology, Belgaum, he joined DA-IICT (now Dhirubhai Ambani University) in 2005, where he has served as Professor since 2008 and as Dean of Research and Development from 2020 to 2023.

Widely recognised as a pioneer in learning-based image super-resolution and inverse imaging, his research has made foundational contributions across image restoration, hyperspectral unmixing, multi-resolution fusion, and regularisation frameworks for ill-posed vision problems. His current work spans generative models, adversarial robustness, and the emerging frontier of quantum machine learning applied to computer vision.

He has authored or co-authored six research books published by Springer, Cambridge University Press, CRC Press, SPIE Press, and Morgan Claypool, and has supervised more than 9 PhD students and 35 MTech theses. His international footprint includes extended research stays at the University of Trento (Italy), LSIIT Strasbourg (France), and FAU Erlangen (Germany), and an invited lecture at the University of Hong Kong. He has also served as Visiting and Adjunct Faculty at IIT Gandhinagar and Visiting Faculty at IIIT Vadodara, and delivered training programmes for scientists at ISRO's Space Application Centre.
